History
The Department of Information Systems and Networks (ISN) was established on 1 June 1995. The reason of the department creation was the organizational and structural design of the new young scientific school on problems of databases, data and knowledge banks.
In the period from 1995 to 2011 the laureate of Ukrainian State Prize in the field of Education and Science, Excellence in Education of Ukraine, PhD, and Professor Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Pasichnyk headed the Department. In 2011-2014 the department was headed by Ph.D., Professor Pavlo Ivanovych Zhezhnych. Since December 2015 the department is headed by Ph.D., professor Vasyl Volodymyrovych Lytvyn.
Now the department has 6 doctors and 19 candidates.
The scientific direction of the Department of Information Systems and Networks is "Research, development and implementation of intellectual distributed information technologies and systems based on resources of databases, data banks, data and knowledge spaces to accelerate the process of formation of the modern information society".
The industrial activities are carried out in the following directions:
- information modelling;
- systematic and information analysis;
- databases and knowledge systems;
- distributed information systems and networks;
- artificial intelligence systems and knowledge engineering.
